Nordoff Robbins Christmas Carols
For the last 15 years, Blue Strawberry has been proud to support Nordoff Robbins for their yearly Carol Concert held at St Luke’s Church, Chelsea. Our Director Molly Ronan has never missed a concert! She says of this year’s; “It has been the best year yet with wonderful music and wonderful readings, although we missed Bill Nighy not reading this year. Jeremy Clarkson was almost as good! Our mulled wine was delicious and for the first time we made a non alcoholic mulled apple which went down really well.”
Nordoff Robbins is the largest independent music therapy charity in the UK, dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and isolated people. Music therapy is a specialist use of music that aims to facilitate physical and emotional wellbeing, and to promote the development and retention of key communication skills. Music therapists support people to develop their own ways of being musical in order to explore their potential and connect with the world around them.
As always, we were delighted to be part of the carol service, which this year raised £90,000 for the fantastic cause. As carol services go, it is always a glamorous affair with celebrity readings and star musicians performing. We start looking forward to Bill Nighy’s reading already in November…
This Christmas the focus was on Nordoff Robbins’ inspiring work with cancer patients. Music therapy offers them vital support and comfort; it gives them a sense of control when everything else is turned upside down; and it helps them to express their feelings and focus on what is possible in an environment full of anxiety.
